The Story of Nanny’s Candles

Nanny’s Candles was born in Brooklyn in 1973, in a small dressmaking studio called Nanny’s where time moved to the rhythm of careful hands. Bolts of fabric leaned against brick walls. Needles flashed in lamplight. Outside, the city pressed on, but inside, there was patience, purpose, and the quiet intimacy of things made by hand.

Nanny believed that beauty should be lived with. After long days of fittings and stitching, she began pouring candles in the stillness of evening—simple vessels of light, made slowly, given freely to the clients who trusted her craft. They were not meant to be sold. They were meant to be felt. A small glow carried home, a reminder of warmth, care, and belonging.

But light has a way of asking to be shared.
Word spread. Orders followed. Clients returned, asking for more—not for garments, but for the candles that had softened their rooms and lingered in their memories. The scent, the glow, the feeling of something lovingly made stayed with them. In time, the candlelight outshone the clothing, and Nanny followed where it led. The creative spark had found its true form.

The journey brought Nanny’s Candles south to Florida, where space opened, sunlight poured in, and the craft was allowed to grow. There, tradition met curiosity. New forms emerged. New waxes were explored and perfected, including luminous gel wax that captured light like glass. What never changed was the hand-poured process, the attention to detail, and the belief that every candle should feel personal.

Today, Nanny’s Candles stands as a quiet tribute to those early evenings in Brooklyn—the hum of work, the generosity of a handmade gift, the glow that turned strangers into loyal friends. Each candle carries that legacy forward: a story of warmth passed hand to hand, light made to last, and beauty rooted in memory.
